Time to upgrade the family pc.. As iv just added Vista to it and it is kinda laggy, worked fine on XP.

Has,
nVidia 6200SE Basic Summot Card
512Mb PC3200 DDR SDRAM installed
Intel Celeron D 346 (3066MHz)

Thinking about upgrading the RAM mainly and probably a new GFX card...
About ~2GB Ram so thats enough for when my lil bro does the odd game here and there..
This is a standard Fujitsu-Siemens ScaleoP so dont really know whats in it..

Here is a report from Everest

The celeron D has more that enough power to get the job done.  If you do put 2GB of ram in the motherboard will be at its max.  Not a huge deal but that also means that the next time you want to upgrade memory it is going to need a whole new motherboard.  I personally would get a new one now that supports the celeron D, the core duo, amd the core 2 duo so that you have lots of space to upgrade.  It will also buy you the ability to put around 4GB or ram into the system.

I didnt see the socket type of your system.. Just make sure you get the correct one.  The motherboards that I was talking about up top are going to be socket 775

Swimmer, Is that what you mean "Socket Designation                                Socket 775"?

I personally dont want to upgrade the mobo just yet, As I dont use the PC myself and if my bro or whoever f**ks it up.. I wouldnt be too bothered as I havent spent too much on it. (Yes, Stingey Me)

Any ideas as to wether that RAM will work with this system? " http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/91124/rb/0 "

you need alot more then 512mb of ram for vista. atleast 1GB.

If you can't get more ram, turn all the visuals off and it will run better.

Swimmer, Is that what you mean "Socket Designation                                Socket 775"?

Yeah that is the socket type... So you could take that processor and put it into a newer motherboard that supported more memory.

If you could. Maybe hold of on vista and put xp back on it. Give vista at least a service pack before reinstalling it. Or if your harddrive is big enough, partition it out and put xp on its own partition. At least you can play with your computer til you get the parts.

If parts are gonna be cashy maybe consider building a new one? That can be done little bit at a time and much better than a pre build job. Its really easy to do. I did it.

Do wanna say I am NOT a fan of vista. I had it for about a month, got rid of it and do not want it back. Faster and better than xp? Not for me. Maybe after the 2nd service pack. Not until then. Just my 2 cents.

I run a dual core with 2 gig of dual channel ram.

Its a Fujitsu Siemens.. So yes.. Brought like that,

Ok, you probably can't put a new motherboard in there then. Most PC manufactures use a special form factor that you can't buy.

FiberOptic
from the Specs i gather its a Scaleo P 3401

This is the Hardware inside the PC

Component  Description
CPU  Intel® Celeron® D 346 Processor (3.06GHz)
Motherboard  GigaByte™ GA-8S649MF
Memory  512 MB DDR RAM - PC2700
Hard Drive  160GB SATA 7200 RPM hard drive
CD / DVD Drive  Dual layer DVD±RW
Video / Graphics Card  nVidia® GeForce™ 6200SE 64MB(64bit) with Turbocache
Sound Card  Realtek AC'97 audio
Speakers  Fujitsu Siemens SoundSystem 2.0 speakers
Modem  HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP
Network Card  SiS 191 1000/100/10 Ethernet Device
Case  Scaleo P 3401 ports
Keyboard  Standard PS/2 Keyboard
Mouse  Standard PS/2 mouse
Serial Number  Fujitsu Siemens Computers SN example

So the Answer to the Question about Memory is NO as DDR2 is 240 pins
and this Mobo will only take DDR which is 184 pins
The MEM you have is PC3200 / 400 MHz
